Wall-mounted home EV charger in Clifton

EV Charger Installation Bristol

A home charger lets you top up your electric car overnight on a cheaper tariff and leave every morning with a full battery. Most homes suit a 7kW charger, which adds roughly 25 to 30 miles of range for every hour it is plugged in.

Avonside Electrical surveys your property first, checking your incoming supply, your main fuse, your earthing and the best cable route, so the charger we recommend is one your house can safely support. A standard installation is usually completed in a single day.

Smart chargers fitted on their own protected circuit

Why Choose Us for Your Charger?

An EV charger draws a heavy load for hours at a time, so the work behind the wall matters as much as the unit on it. We size the cable correctly, fit the right protection and deal with earthing properly, including open-PEN protection where your supply needs it.

We give honest advice on brands rather than pushing one, set up the app and charging schedule with you, and notify the network operator where required. You get an installation certificate and a charger you can rely on.

Home EV Charging Services

Our EV charging service covers everything from the first survey to the moment your car starts charging. We help you choose a charger, plan the cable route and position, install the unit and its circuit, and test everything before we leave.

If your consumer unit is old or full, we can upgrade it at the same visit. If you have solar panels, we can fit a charger that uses your spare solar power first. And if a charger is already on your wall but not working as it should, we can find out why.

Site Survey and Advice

Every installation starts with a look at your supply, fuse rating, earthing and consumer unit.

We check whether the house can take the extra load, where the charger is best placed for your parking, and how the cable will get there neatly. You get a clear recommendation and a fixed price before any work is booked.

Home Charger Installation

We fit the charger on a dedicated circuit with its own protection, running the cable as tidily as the building allows.

Untethered and tethered units, wall and post mounts are all available, so the charger suits both your car and the look of your house. Most installs take a few hours to a day.

Smart Charging Setup

Smart chargers can wait for your cheapest overnight rate and stop automatically when the battery is full.

We connect the charger to your Wi-Fi, set up the app on your phone and create a charging schedule with you, so you get the full benefit of a smart tariff from the very first night.

Consumer Unit Upgrades

Some older fuse boards have no space or no suitable protection for a charger circuit.

Where that is the case we replace the board with a modern consumer unit at the same visit, which brings the rest of your circuits up to current standards and keeps the whole job to one day of disruption.

Solar-Compatible Chargers

If you already generate your own electricity, a solar-aware charger can put spare power into your car first.

We can fit and configure chargers that work alongside your existing panels and battery storage, so more of the power you generate ends up in your car rather than being exported to the grid for very little.

Charger Faults and Repairs

A charger that trips, stops mid-session or will not connect to its app is frustrating and sometimes unsafe.

We test the circuit and the unit, find the cause and put it right, whether that is a wiring fault, a failed protective device, a firmware update or a charger that simply needs replacing.

Clear advice, fixed quotes and tidy workmanship on every job

How We Can Help

Not every home has a driveway right next to the meter. Many of the houses we work on have the consumer unit in a cellar or under the stairs, and parking at the side or rear of the property.

Avonside Electrical plans the cable route around the building, through cellars, along walls or underground where needed, and talks you through exactly where every cable will run before we start, so the finished installation is safe and as discreet as possible.

A Typical Installation

On the day, we isolate the supply, fit any new protection at the consumer unit and run a dedicated cable to the charger position. The charger is mounted, connected and earthed, then the whole circuit is tested, including the RCD and earth fault loop readings.

Once the tests pass, we power the charger up, connect it to your Wi-Fi and app, and make sure it charges your car correctly. Before we leave, we show you how to use it and give you your certificate and paperwork.

Get an EV Charger Quote

Contact Avonside Electrical for a fixed quote on a home EV charger. To give you an accurate price, it helps to know your car, where you park, where your consumer unit and meter are, and roughly how far apart they are. A few photos of your fuse board and the outside wall where you would like the charger are often enough for us to price a straightforward job.

If the installation is more involved, we will visit to survey it properly. We can also tell you whether any current government grant applies to your home, and recommend the right charger for how far you drive.
